Being a millenial, 90s has always had a very special place in my heart. Don’t you love it? isn’t it so strange that we finally live in a time where fashion trends have come back around to a time we can remember? But I don’t want fashion to keep moving forward. I want it to stay in the ’90s forever because ’90s fashion puts comfort first and everything else later. Whenever I see my mum’s pictures from college, I perpetually whine that she didn’t keep her clothes as a gift for me (PS: My mum has a great sense of fashion too). Also, I hate it when she brags about how she wore all these outfits long back. And incase you haven’t noticed Kajol’s outfits from DDLJ, GO. WATCH DDLJ. RIGHT NOW. Her outfits in that movie is basically everything that is back in fad
in 2019. It’s time we all agree that 90’s is the Best Ever Era. I repeat, The Best Ever. Here’s a list of few things that are back with a bang in 2019.
1. Fanny Packs
Fanny Packs or Bum Bags are everything right now. They have been everywhere, everywhere. They are so practical and convenient. I feel like it is boon to the mankind. They started gaining popularity in 2017 and still is very much in trend. the Instagram influencers are now wearing them crossbody, like a shoulder bag, and the pack right across the chest. But now, we’ve nearly lost track of the number of ways you can wear them. On the streets, runways, and the gram, now we’re seeing them across the back, over the shoulder, you name it. We love them all, so we’re showing you all the ways you can wear a fanny pack in 2019.
2. Ugly Dad Sneakers
The Ugly Dad Sneakers apocalypse is upon us. Once you start wearing Ugly Dad Sneakers, there’s no coming back. I too was a bit hesitant to try ‘em first but now, I absolutely love how comfy they are. Pioneered by Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia, who took the concept of normcore to new heights with his Spring/Summer 2018 menswear show, which featured real Parisian fathers and their kids. And later we saw the same in women wear too. The clunky kicks are reminiscent of Sketchers you or your folks might’ve worn in the ’90s, and the chicest way to style them is with a pair of quirky printed socks.
3. Mom Jeans
Denim trends have changed a lot over time. The world has moved from Skinny Jeans to Mom Jeans. Everyone is obsessed with ‘em. A good pair of high-waisted mom jeans has now become a staple in one’s wardrobe. This surely has resulted in the death of Skinny Jeans cause ‘comfort’. Gone are the days when skinny jeans were your best friend. Mom Jeans literally go with everything. A growing number of instagrammers, bloggers and celebs are sharing their love for this trend and you can totally relate why.
4. Bucket Hats
Bucket Hats or Fisherman’s Hats were first spotted on the street and runways of New York Fashion Week 2019. Bucket Hats are high in fashion now, a lot of Instagrammers and celebs endorsing this trend. It adds a dose of coolness and a casual feel to your outfits.
Scrunchies are back and Mrs. Bieber is obsessed with ‘em. We’ve been obsessed with scrunchies too for as long as we can remember – not only are they super cute but they save you from hair loss caused by hair ties. Scrunchies, especially silk scrunchies (boujee, we know), cause less friction so are a lot better for your hair. Rock it with a bun or a ponytail, just wear it high on your head for fashion feels instead of grandma vibes.
6. Tiny sunglasses
The world is obsessed with Tiny Sunglasses, no wonder why. Celebs and influencers are still rocking this trend for over a year now, proving that oversized sunglasses are a thing of past. Looks like tiny sunglasses are here to stay. “Kanye sent me a whole email like, ‘You cannot wear big glasses anymore. It’s all about tiny little glasses,'” Kim said. “He sent me like, millions of ’90s photos with tiny little glasses like this.” mentioned Kim in an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians. IDK how many of you remember it but this is what started influencing people to get their hands on tiny sunglasses.
7. Slip Dresses/ Skirts
Slip Dresses and Skirts are my personal favourite. They are so sexy, comfy and dressy at the same time. Unlike some 90s trends, this trend is being welcomed back with open arms by some of our beloved millennials like Kaia Gerber, Jenner and Hadid sisters, Winnie Harlow and a lot of other celebs, influencers and bloggers.
